  PROSPICE       LITE

ProSPICE Lite Mixed Mode Simulator
ProSPICE Lite is the shareware version of our SPICE circuit simulator that is also the basis of our revolutionary system level simulator - Proteus VSM Professional.
In conjunction with a registered copy of ISIS Lite ProSPICE Lite allows you to perform interactive transient analyses of your schematics using animation rather than traditional graphs to show the operation of the circuit. Colour is used to display wire voltage, and arrows to display current flow. Whilst the simulation runs you can interact with your design using mouse-operated switches, potentiometers. etc.

ISIS Schematic with ProSPICE simulating a 8052 BASIC Interpreter design. The three 'pop-up' windows on the left are (from top to bottom) the assembly source code, the 8052 RAM and a RS232-style (TTY) terminal.

Virtual Instruments:
A ProSPICE Lite registration includes, as standard, three 'virtual' instruments:
Virtual Oscilloscope
Dual Beam Oscilloscope (shown right)
Logic Analyser
Signal Generator

Voltage and current measurements may also be made by placing ammeter and voltmeter components in circuit. Alternatively, you can use the wire animation feature which shows node voltage by wire colour and current direction with arrows.

VSM Models
ProSPICE Lite incorporates the same Virtual System Modelling (VSM) technology as its professional counterpart and so can use any of the VSM models available such as keypads, LCD displays and microprocessors though there may be restrictions on the Lite versions of these models.

In particular, you can use ProSPICE Lite to simulate microprocessor based designs using the 8051, HC11, PIC and AVR microprocessor models.

Registrations for microprocessor and peripheral models must be obtained in addition to that for ProSPICE Lite.

MAIN FEATURES
The main features of ProSPICE Lite are: -

  • True SPICE3F5 mixed mode (analogue & digital) simulation.
  • Three 'virtual' instruments (oscilloscope, logic analyser and signal    generator) included as standard.
  • Real-time interactive operation including full support for VSM models    including 8051, HC11, many PIC 16 family and Atmel AVR family    microprocessor models as well as additional virtual instruments such    as the RS232 (TTY) terminal.
  • Pause and single step mode modes allow step by step examination of    circuit operation including single-stepping through microprocessor    source code.
  • Extensive range of indicators including bulbs, LEDs, motor, fuse,    voltmeters, ammeters, 7-segment displays and more.
  • Mouse operated actuators including switches, buttons, pots. etc.
  • Voltage and current can be shown visually by wire colour and arrows.
  • Logic states can be displayed for each component pin.
  • Over 60 sample circuits are provided covering topics from basic    electricity through to simple electronics.
  • Component library includes over 4000 real world component models,    including TTL and CMOS logic families.
  • Unique facility to create your own animated components - no other    electronics simulator has this.
  • Full design file compatibility with the professional versions of ISIS and    ProSPICE should you choose to upgrade later.

    MAIN LIMITATION
A registered copy of ProSPICE Lite differs from the Professional version in the following main respects:

  • ProSPICE Lite does not support graph-based (i.e. non-interactive,    non-real-time) simulations. In particular this means that analyses    such a frequency, AC/DC sweep, noise, etc. are not available.
  • Registering ProSPICE Lite will enable ProSPICE and the virtual    instruments listed above. Its does not register any other instruments or    VSM models - registrations for these must be purchased separately.
  • The VSM Lite processor models (e.g. 8051/8052 and PIC1683/1684)    have a limit of 1k words of program code.

    Why Register ?
In its unregistered form ProSPICE Lite imposes significant restrictions:

  • The 60+ sample designs which do not contain VSM models (such as the virtual instruments, microprocessors, keypad, LCD displays, etc.) can be modified and simulated but not saved. With the sample designs that do contain VSM models you are restricted to modifying only the microprocessor code. If you change the circuit itself the design will not simulate.
  • If you wish to use ProSPICE Lite in earnest you will need to purchase a registration code for it. Once registered, ProSPICE Lite offers the following additional features and benefits:
  • The above restrictions are removed and any design can be simulated and saved subject to you having the appropriate SPICE models and, in the case of VSM models, registrations for those models. Technical support via e-mail. Please note, however, that technical support is limited to ProSPICE and associated software only; we will not get involved in debugging your circuits!
